Breathe Just Breathe

Despite all that is going on in your life, realize you do have the power to stop, breathe, think, and resume. The breath is not an escape. It is simply a moment where you endeavor to settle your mind long enough to gain clarity. Sometimes we commit ourselves to so many activities or people that we become overwhelmed, stressed, or exhausted to the point that we forget to breathe. I had an athlete who once observed me in my workspace doing about ten things at once. She said, “Coach, in the last 60 seconds, you only took like two breaths.” Not pauses, but actual breaths. That stuck with me. I was operating with very little air, very little rest. Frustrated and Exhausted. Work requires oxygen. Decision making constitutes work as well. Decision making requires clarity of mind and the mind needs oxygen to function optimally. Remember to breathe and with this breath, allow yourself to pause. Your next move depends on a sound mind.
